FAQs - Trimmers

Swordfish trimmers are warranted against failure or malfunction due to faulty components or workmanship for a period of one year from the date of purchase by the original consumer. Defects or failures, which have been caused by incorrect or wrongful use, regardless whether unintentional or intentional during the operation or maintenance of the device, are excluded from the warranty.

The only user-serviceable part of a Swordfish trimmer is the blade. As with all cutting instruments, dulling of the blade results from normal usage and is not covered within the warranty. Replacement blades are available to purchase. Unauthorized repair or attempts to service the unit other than to change the blade will invalidate the warranty.

Swordfish trimmers have been designed to cut only those materials outlined within the instructions. Non-compliance with Swordfish's instructions will invalidate the warranty.

For service of the unit under warranty, please return your Swordfish office machine with proof of purchase to your dealer or contact the Swordfish customer service. In the event of returning the machine under warranty, suitable packaging must be used. Insufficient packaging resulting in damage will invalidate the warranty.

As with all specialist-cutting instruments, Swordfish trimmers are calibrated and will cut with a tolerance level equal to 1-2mm. This tolerance can also be affected by storage, transportation and usage conditions.

All paper will also have a tolerance before cutting. A0 and A1 paper has a +/- 3.0mm tolerance and A2, A3 and A4 paper has a +/- 2.0mm tolerance. This is according to DIN standard 476. Therefore, we can never guarantee that cuttings will be 100% accurate.

There are a number of reasons why you may experience difficulty in cutting the maximum sheet capacity. The most common causes are attempting to cut more than the maximum sheet capacity, trying to cut with a blunt blade and incorrect positioning. Correct positioning is outlined in the Trimmer User Guide and this includes positioning the trimmer perpendicular to your body and standing up whilst cutting.

Yes, replacement paper clamps are available.

Please complete the 'Replacement Parts Form' which will be sent directly to our Service Agent who will get in touch with you.

The trimmer should be stored flat and never on either end as this will affect the calibration.

The best way to transport your trimmer is in the original box and packaging. If you do not have the original packaging then we advise wrapping the trimmer in suitable padded material before transportation. The trimmer should be laid flat during transportation and should never be carried using the guide rail.

As with all cutting instruments, the blade will dull with use. How often you change the cutting blade depends on the frequency of use and what it is used to cut. Cutting card and multiple sheets will dull the blade more quickly. Daily use may result in a requirement to change the blade every few weeks where as occasional use will require replacement every few months. Signs of a blunt blade include increased effort required to cut, failure to cut the maximum capacity or a poor finish.

The cutting head can become jammed or out of alignment if the trimmer is transported or used incorrectly. Please try our trimmer realignment guide by clicking on the link below:

Trimmer Blade Realignment

Swordfish 500 Series Paper Trimmers can cut a maximum of 10 sheets of 80gsm paper.

Swordfish 600 Series Professional Trimmers can cut a maximum 20 sheets of 80gsm paper.

Please note that the most accurate cut will be obtained from cutting only 1 sheet. As with all trimmers, increasing the number of sheets will reduce the accuracy. We therefore recommend cutting as few sheets as possible at any one time.

The circular blade should be positioned in front of the static blade so that it sits against it.

The blade should not sit on top of the table and is out of alignment if it is in this position.
